By the end of the lesson students are challenged to:
That students will begin to understand that all Christians are called to continue God’s mission based on the model of Jesus, that the work of Catholic Mission continues the mission of Jesus, and that all around the world, there are situations of need that we can influence directly and indirectly as part of God’s mission based on the model of Jesus.

Step 1 (suggested time 6 min)
Ask students to list celebrations that take place in many countries. Possibilities include birthday or special family celebrations, the Olympics, the World Cup, New Year’s Eve and so forth. Encourage students to think of major religious celebrations they have heard of – Diwali for Hindus, Ramadan for Muslims, Passover for Jews, and Christian observances such as Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.
Explain to students that this lesson is special because it links them to a celebration that is taking place in every country in which the Church is present around the world – World Mission Day (WMD). WMD is part of World Mission Month and is celebrated every year in every country wherever Christians are committed to bringing about God’s Kingdom here on earth. This is a commitment to create a world where every single person’s dignity and worth is recognised and protected because we are all brothers and sisters made in the image of God. In Australia, Catholic Mission shares the good news about WMD and about the ways they help to continue the mission of Jesus today, all around the world.
Catholic Mission encourages all students to truly live our lives as Jesus challenges us, as people who put our faith into action:
